Compassionate Classroom

If you are a student, parent, or educator who wants to ease the transition back to school after a loss within the school community, Families Helping Families (FHF) wants to help.

We strive to assist schools in supporting students who may be grieving in any way we can. In the past we have worked with counselors to set up and run groups at all levels of school, debriefed administration, counselors, teachers and students, and assisted with peer to peer training.

Compassionate Classroom is a fee based program. Fee’s are based on sliding scale.

In-Service Trainings
The educational trainings help school personnel know what to expect from grieving children and teens and how to respond to students and parents. Participants receive reproducible materials to share with families as well as guidelines for helping students in a school setting. We can also provide the training and support necessary to set up and run grief support groups.

Classroom Presentations
Children and teens frequently have little or no experience in grieving the loss of a loved one. Our interactive classroom presentation educates students about the grief process. Questions are answered about what to expect, and about good coping strategies for themselves and their friends. These services are available for elementary, junior high, and high school levels. We can also assist with the training of peer-to-peer counselors.

Crisis Planning and Intervention
Every organization needs to be prepared to handle the death of a student or member of the school community. We consult with staff to prepare crisis intervention and follow-up plans.

When organizations lack adequate resources to provide effective intervention or follow-up, we may be available to assist.
