Family Day
A day for learning and support designed to provide hope and healing
October 3, 2009
9:00am – 12:30pm
Grief & loss are a natural part of the human experience, however, as a society we are often not prepared or educated on how to “be with” the experience losing a loved one. It just happens, and all of a sudden we find ourselves treading through the pain and trauma associated when a family loses someone special to their hearts. The ripples of loss affect everyone in the family in different ways. At FHF we recognize grieving as a process that we must “go through” in order to find some measure of peace in our new lives. Join us for a day of support and healing that is designed to meet the needs of all members in the family.
Children’s Support Group (5-11): This group is for children who have experienced the loss of a loved one. This group is presented in partnership with ARTS (A Reason to Survive) and psychologist Rochelle Perper, who specializes in youth bereavement. Children will create a memorial art project and participate in a facilitated discussion about grief and loss.
Teen Support Group (12-18): An experiential group where participants will learn how music, writing and spoken word can assist with the process of grief and loss. Co-facilitated by JDF staff Leanne Tibiatowski, program director; Angela Locke MSW, program assistant and Sherehe Hollins, Youth Advocate and Spoken Word Artist.
Mom’s Support Group: This group for mothers who have lost a child is an opportunity for mom’s to share and support each other in their new lives after what many consider the “worst loss”. Facilitated by FHF mom and FHF Senior Bereavement Facilitator Denise Hankins, a special group that provides healing and hope through peer support.
Dad’s Support Group: A group for fathers who have lost a child providing the opportunity for men to have support from a group of their peers. Often in response to crisis, men step into leading the family through the darkness which does not always make room for acknowledging their personal grief. Join Dr. Ken Druck for this special experience designed to assist men with their process of grieving.
Healing Your Life After the Loss of a Loved One Support Group: Our community has grown to include those who have lost a spouse, a partner, grandchild, adult sibling or a special friend. If you have experienced a loss please join Dr. Lori Rappaport for an intimate group where you will find support and strategies for dealing with the loss of a loved one.
Family Day will conclude with an outdoor picnic, lunch will be provided. Seating is limited and expected to fill quickly. Please register on-line today to secure your place for this special day!
